Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes Teor (played by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look unsuited, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in the powerful family could assist the team reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Planners groups.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
