Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then located multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
A senior political figure said the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
